Carpet-to-wood stair upgrades
Carpeted stairs wear fast, hold dust and date a home. Pulling up the carpet and installing new hardwood or LVP treads with matching nosings is one of the most dramatic upgrades you can make. We remove the old carpet, tack strips and staples, check every step for squeaks and level, then install new treads cut to fit each step — because in most homes, no two steps are exactly the same size.
If your new main-level floor is hardwood or LVP, we match the stair treads to it so the stairs and the floor read as one continuous design.
Refinishing existing wood stairs
If your stairs are already wood but look scratched, dull or orange with age, a refinish can bring them back. We hand-sand treads, edges and nosings — areas a big floor sander can't reach — then stain and seal them to match or update your floors.
Handrails, balusters and risers
The details are what make a staircase look finished. We can help with:
- Staining or re-staining handrails and newel posts
- Crisp painted white or black risers and skirt boards
- Painting or updating balusters
- Clean stair nosings and transitions at landings
What to expect
Most staircase projects take one to three days depending on the number of steps and finishes. Stairs are a high-traffic path in any home, so we'll talk through a plan to keep at least part of the house accessible while we work and let you know exactly when each step is safe to use again.
Every project starts with a free in-home estimate. We measure each step, show you tread, stain and paint options, and give you a clear, written price before any work begins.
